Welcome to Safari Market Cooking School, where we celebrate the rich culinary traditions of Africa and the Caribbean. Our classes are designed to teach authentic cooking techniques, traditional recipes, and the cultural stories behind beloved dishes from across the diaspora.
About Our Cooking Classes
Safari Market Cooking School offers hands-on cooking classes taught by experienced chefs who bring generations of culinary knowledge and passion for traditional cooking. Whether you are reconnecting with the flavors of home or discovering new cuisines, our classes provide an immersive, educational, and delicious experience.
Class Formats
We offer both in-person and online cooking classes to accommodate different learning preferences and schedules.
In-Person Classes

Class Features:
- Hands-on instruction in our professional kitchen

Duration: Most in-person classes run 2.5 to 3 hours, including preparation, cooking, and tasting.
Online Classes
Format: Live, interactive classes conducted via video conferencing platform (Zoom)
Class Features:
- Real-time instruction from our chefs
- Ingredient list and recipes sent in advance
- Q&A sessions throughout the class
- Recorded session available for 7 days after class
- Digital recipe cards and cooking guides
- Access to our online student community
Duration: Online classes typically run 1.5 to 2 hours.
Technical Requirements:
- Reliable internet connection
- Device with camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone)
- Access to a kitchen during class time

Registration and Payment
How to Register:
- Browse available classes on our website at safarimarket.ca/cooking-classes
- Select your preferred class and date
- Complete the registration form
- Pay the full class fee to secure your spot
Payment: Full payment is required at the time of registration. We accept all payment methods outlined in our Payment Policy.
Registration Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation email immediately after registering, including:
- Class details (date, time, location/access link)
- Ingredient list (for online classes)
- What to bring (for in-person classes)
- Preparatory instructions
- Contact information
Class Fees
In-Person Classes:
- Single class: $75 – $125 per person (depending on class complexity and ingredients)
- Series package (4 classes): Save 15%
- Couples package (2 people, 1 class): Save 10%
Online Classes:
- Single class: $45 – $75 per person
- Series package (4 classes): Save 20%
- Family package (household of 4): $150 per class
Private Classes: Custom private classes available for groups of 6 or more. Contact us for pricing.
All prices are in Canadian dollars and include applicable taxes.

What to Bring (In-Person Classes)
Required:
- Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
- Closed-toe shoes (for safety)
- Hair tie (if you have long hair)
Optional:
- Notebook for personal notes
- Camera or phone for photos
- Containers if you want to take home extra portions
Provided: Aprons, cooking equipment, ingredients, and all necessary supplies are provided.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy
We understand that plans change. Please review our cancellation and rescheduling terms:
Student-Initiated Cancellations
More than 7 days before class:
- Full refund minus $10 processing fee, OR
- Full credit toward another class (no fee)
4-7 days before class:
- 50% refund, OR
- Full credit toward another class
Less than 4 days before class:
- No refund
- 50% credit toward another class (one-time courtesy)
No-show:
- No refund or credit
Rescheduling
You may reschedule to another class of equal or lesser value up to 7 days before your scheduled class at no charge. Rescheduling within 7 days is subject to the cancellation policy above.
Transfers
You may transfer your registration to another person at any time by contacting us at least 24 hours before the class. The new participant must provide their contact and dietary information.
Safari Market Cancellations
If we need to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or unforeseen circumstances:
- Full refund, OR
- Priority registration for the rescheduled class, OR
- Credit toward any other class
We will notify you as soon as possible, typically at least 48 hours in advance.
Class Size and Prerequisites
Minimum Enrollment: Classes require a minimum of 4 participants. If minimum enrollment is not met, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the class.
Maximum Capacity:
- In-person classes: 12 participants
- Online classes: 25 participants
Prerequisites: Most classes are suitable for all skill levels. Advanced classes may have prerequisites, which will be clearly stated in the class description.
Age Requirements:
- Adult classes: 18 years and older
- Teen classes (13-17): Must be accompanied by a participating adult
- Family classes: Children 8 and older welcome with adult supervision
- Kids classes: Ages specified in class description
Dietary Accommodations
We strive to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences whenever possible.
Please Inform Us: Notify us of any dietary restrictions, allergies, or preferences at the time of registration. We need this information to:
- Prepare appropriate ingredient substitutions
- Prevent cross-contamination
- Ensure your safety and comfort
Accommodations We Can Provide:
- Vegetarian and vegan modifications
- Gluten-free alternatives (where possible)
- Nut-free options
- Halal requirements
- Religious dietary restrictions
Limitations: Some traditional recipes cannot be significantly modified without losing their authenticity. In such cases, we will work with you to find a suitable alternative class or provide observation-only participation with a partial refund.
Severe Allergies: If you have severe allergies, please contact us directly before registering to discuss whether we can safely accommodate your needs.
Health and Safety
Food Safety: Our kitchen meets all Saskatchewan Health Authority standards. All instructors are certified in food safety and safe food handling practices.
Sanitation:
- Hand washing stations available
- Sanitized equipment and surfaces
- Proper food storage and temperature control
- Separate preparation areas for different allergens when possible
Illness Policy: If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend in-person classes. Contact us to reschedule at no charge. This protects all participants and staff.
Medical Conditions: If you have a medical condition that might affect your participation (mobility issues, standing limitations, etc.), please let us know so we can make appropriate accommodations.
COVID-19 Protocols: We follow current public health guidelines. Protocols may include:
- Enhanced cleaning between classes
- Hand sanitizer stations
- Mask requirements (as per local regulations)
- Physical distancing measures
- Health screening questions
Conduct and Participation
Respectful Environment: We maintain a welcoming, inclusive environment. All participants are expected to:
- Treat instructors and fellow students with respect
- Follow instructor guidance and safety protocols
- Arrive on time and ready to participate
- Refrain from disruptive behavior
- Respect others’ learning pace and experience level
Photography and Recording: You are welcome to take photos of your cooking experience for personal use. However, recording video or audio of the instructor or other participants without permission is not permitted.
Safari Market may take photos or videos during classes for promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be photographed, please inform the instructor at the beginning of class.
Alcohol: Some classes may include wine pairing or cooking with alcohol. Participants must be 19 years or older to consume alcohol. Non-alcoholic alternatives are always available.
Liability and Assumption of Risk
By participating in cooking classes, you acknowledge and agree that:
Inherent Risks: Cooking involves inherent risks including but not limited to: burns, cuts, allergic reactions, and other injuries. You voluntarily assume these risks.
Waiver: You waive any claims against Safari Market, its instructors, and staff for injuries or damages arising from class participation, except in cases of gross negligence.
Emergency Contact: You agree to provide emergency contact information at registration and authorize us to seek medical assistance on your behalf if necessary.
Insurance: Safari Market carries general liability insurance. However, we recommend participants maintain their own health insurance.
Intellectual Property
Recipe Sharing: Recipe cards and cooking techniques taught in classes are for your personal use. Please do not reproduce or distribute recipes for commercial purposes.
Social Media: We encourage sharing your cooking creations on social media! Please tag us @safarimarketyxe and use #SafariMarketCookingSchool
Certificate Programs
Completion Certificates: Students who complete a full series of classes (4+ classes in a themed curriculum) will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Skill Badges: Earn digital badges for mastering specific techniques or completing themed class sets. Badges can be shared on social media and professional profiles.
Private and Group Events
Private Classes: Book a private class for your group of 6-12 people. Choose from our existing class menu or work with us to create a custom experience.
Corporate Team Building: Cooking classes make excellent team-building activities. Contact us for corporate rates and custom programming.
Special Occasions: Celebrate birthdays, bridal showers, family reunions, or other special occasions with a private cooking class.
Pricing: Private classes start at $900 for up to 8 participants (in-person) or $600 (online). Contact catering@safarimarket.ca for a custom quote.
Gift Certificates
Cooking class gift certificates are available in any denomination and make wonderful gifts. Gift certificates:
- Never expire
- Can be used toward any class
- Are transferable
- Can be purchased online or in-store
Loyalty and Referral Program
Student Rewards:
- 10% off your 5th class
- 15% off your 10th class
- Exclusive access to special workshops and events
Referral Program: Refer a friend and you both receive $15 off your next class when they complete their first class.

By registering for a cooking class, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Cooking Class Policy, as well as our general Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
