At Safari Market, your satisfaction is our top priority. We stand behind the quality of our products and want you to be completely happy with every purchase. This policy outlines our return and refund procedures for both online and in-store purchases.

Our Satisfaction Guarantee

If you are not completely satisfied with any product purchased from Safari Market, we will make it right. We are committed to providing fresh, high-quality African and Caribbean groceries and products, and we back that commitment with our customer satisfaction guarantee.

Return Timeframes

Fresh & Perishable Products: Due to the nature of perishable items (fresh produce, meat, seafood, dairy, frozen foods, and bakery items), we ask that you inspect these items immediately upon delivery or pickup. If you are not satisfied with the freshness or quality, please contact us within 24 hours of receiving your order.

Packaged & Non-Perishable Products: Non-perishable items such as canned goods, spices, dry goods, beverages, and household products may be returned within 14 days of purchase or delivery in their original, unopened condition.

Restaurant Prepared Foods: Due to health and safety regulations, prepared foods from our restaurant cannot be returned once they have left our premises. However, if you are not satisfied with your meal, please let us know immediately so we can address the issue.

What Can Be Returned

Eligible for Return:

  • Unopened packaged foods and beverages in original condition
  • Non-food items (cookware, utensils, decorative items) with original packaging and tags
  • Fresh produce, meat, seafood, or dairy that does not meet our quality standards
  • Products that are damaged, defective, or past their expiration date
  • Items that were incorrectly supplied or differ from what you ordered

Not Eligible for Return:

  • Opened or partially used food products (for health and safety reasons)
  • Items without proof of purchase
  • Perishable products reported more than 24 hours after delivery
  • Products damaged due to misuse or improper storage by the customer
  • Special order items, unless defective or damaged
  • Prepared restaurant meals (after leaving our premises)
  • Gift cards
  • Cooking class registrations (see our Cooking Class Policy for cancellation terms)

How to Return Items

Online Purchases:

  1. Contact Us: Email support@safarimarket.ca or call 306-374-0411 within the applicable return timeframe
  2. Provide Details: Include your order number, the item(s) you wish to return, and the reason for the return
  3. Receive Authorization: Our team will review your request and provide a Return Authorization Number
  4. Return the Item:
    • For local Saskatoon customers: Return items to our store at 120 Apex Street during business hours
    • For out-of-area customers: We will provide return shipping instructions

In-Store Purchases:

Simply bring the item(s) to our customer service desk at 120 Apex Street along with your receipt or proof of purchase. Our team will process your return immediately.

Refund Methods

Original Payment Method: Refunds will be issued to the original payment method used for the purchase (credit card, debit card, etc.).

Store Credit: If you prefer, we can provide store credit instead of a refund. Store credit never expires and can be used for any future purchase.

Exchange: We are happy to exchange items for a different product of equal or greater value.

Refund Processing Times

Once we receive and inspect your returned item:

  • In-store returns are processed immediately
  • Online returns are processed within 3-5 business days of receiving the item
  • Refunds to credit/debit cards typically appear within 5-10 business days, depending on your financial institution

Return Shipping

Local Saskatoon Returns: No shipping costs. Simply return items to our store.

Outside Saskatoon:

  • If the return is due to our error (wrong item, damaged item, quality issue), we will provide a prepaid return shipping label
  • For returns due to change of mind on non-perishable items, the customer is responsible for return shipping costs
  • We recommend using a trackable shipping method when returning items by mail

Fresh Quality Guarantee

We take pride in the freshness of our products. If any perishable item does not meet your expectations:

Immediate Inspection: Please inspect perishable items as soon as you receive them. Check for quality, freshness, and any damage.

Quick Reporting: Contact us within 24 hours if you have any concerns. For perishable items, time is critical, and we need to address quality issues promptly.

Photo Documentation: For online orders, we ask that you take photos of any quality issues with perishable items to help us improve our packing and shipping processes.

Resolution: We will offer a full refund, replacement, or store credit at your preference.

Damaged or Defective Items

If you receive an item that is damaged or defective:

  1. Contact us immediately at 306-374-0411 or support@safarimarket.ca
  2. Provide your order number and photos of the damaged item and packaging
  3. We will arrange for a replacement to be sent or issue a full refund
  4. You do not need to return damaged perishable items

Wrong or Missing Items

If you receive the wrong item or your order is missing items:

  1. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery
  2. Provide your order number and details of the discrepancy
  3. We will send the correct item or missing items at no additional charge
  4. If you prefer, we can issue a refund for the incorrect or missing items

Special Circumstances

Allergic Reactions or Health Concerns: If a product causes an allergic reaction or health concern, please contact us immediately and seek appropriate medical attention. We take food safety very seriously and will investigate any such reports thoroughly.

Bulk or Case Purchases: Returns of bulk or case purchases will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please contact customer service for assistance.

Proof of Purchase

To process a return or refund, we require proof of purchase, which may include:

  • Original receipt
  • Order confirmation email
  • Credit card statement showing the transaction
  • Order number from your online account

Restocking Fees

We do not charge restocking fees for any returns, except in cases of special order items that were custom-ordered at your request and are being returned due to a change of mind (not due to defect or quality issues).

Exchanges

We are happy to exchange any eligible item for a different product. If the new product is more expensive, you will be charged the difference. If it is less expensive, we will issue a refund or store credit for the difference.

Refund Exceptions

In rare cases, we may deny a refund if:

  • The item has been used or tampered with (except for quality testing of fresh items)
  • The return is attempted outside the applicable timeframe without valid reason
  • The item shows signs of misuse or intentional damage
  • Proof of purchase cannot be provided
  • The return appears to be fraudulent

We reserve the right to refuse returns that do not comply with this policy.
